Chilcomb Centre

The Chilcomb Innovation Centre comprises 9000sqm of accommodation for office based, and research and development businesses (use classes B1a and B2b). The redevelopment of this brown field site has required sensitive planning due to its location within the Hampshire Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, what is now the South Downs National Park.

Comprising six individual three storey units arranged in two blocks, the sustainable design sought BREEAM Excellent rating, and achieved planning permission in December 2009. An important aspect of the brief was to create a modern, sustainable development, with a range of flexible and adaptable office spaces for the variety of potential tenants. The scheme will incorporate numerous low energy and sustainable design features.

The proposals were enthusiastically supported by the Hampshire Chamber of Commerce and Winchester City Council’s economic development team who embraced the provision of new high-end employment space that reversed the trend that reduced employment opportunities in the City over previous years.
