RVC Masterplan
The project entailed the development of 20-year plans for the College’s two campuses, at Camden in central London and at Potters Bar in rural Hertfordshire. The masterplan needed to allow for a number of different requirements, an increase in research and teaching accommodation, expansion in the range of courses, improved utilization, modernization of existing facilities and a reduction in energy use. The vision underpinning the whole was to support growth and allow the university to re-establish itself as the world’s leading Veterinary College.

As well as the masterplan, ArchitecturePLB was also commissioned by the College for a number of specific projects and detailed feasibility studies aimed at raising the quality of the accommodation and improving the overall campus experience.
Our long-term relationship with the College allowed us to establish an excellent working relationship, developed through close consultation and workshops with senior management, the estates team and end users, both student and academic. In addition, our role as Retained Architect (2005-2011) provided us with a detailed understanding of the two sites, informing the masterplan and assisting a comprehensive reassessment of the College’s requirements and priorities.
One of the highlights of working alongside the RVC was their achievement in winning the ‘Most Improved Student Experience’ award in 2011, which was a notable recognition of their hard work academically and pastorally, in addition to the investment in the estate.
“The Royal Veterinary College moved up 37 positions in the rankings and improved its overall score by 8.1 points, and we’re delighted to say it came out as the overall award winner of the most improved award."
