Haute Vallee School Jersey

This new 750 pupil secondary school with community facilities was commissioned by The States of Jersey following an open design competition. The design brings together a number of low energy technologies into a simple and yet innovative configuration.

Appearance, initial cost, durability and long term maintenance costs were all important considerations in the choice of external materials. ArchitecturePLB has an interest in exploiting the contrasts in colour, texture and historical association between materials. This allowed us to respond to the local desire for traditional Jersey materials such as granite and render, while still achieving a building which is of its time.

The scheme combines the use of wind towers, thermal mass, passive solar heating, external shading and good daylighting, all controlled electronically to provide a well balanced ecological environment.
