Adelaide Health Centre
ArchitecturePLB was invited to work with GB Primarycare (Assura Group and Geoffrey Osborne Limited) on the architectural design of the interior of the Adelaide Health Centre, a new-build primary care centre located in the grounds of the existing Western Hospital site in Southampton.
The facility is one of a number of schemes procured through the South West Hampshire LIFT (Local Improvement Finance Trust) and offers a wide range of services, including podiatry, out of hours walk-in centre and physiotherapy, a pharmacy, along with a large office base for PCT staff.

The building form, designed by Greenhill Jenner Architects, uses a strong geometrical plan shape, a triangle, to make a striking and visually prominent statement, at the edge of a residential district. Facilities are arranged over three floors, with public access to ground and first.
ArchitecturePLB worked closely with the PCT as the end-user, developing integrated strategies for all aspects of the building interior, including finishes, bespoke furniture and fittings, lighting and way finding.
Through the careful use of colour to identify routes and zones, the patient experience is made as stress free as possible, with an emphasis on creating a calm, modern and welcoming environment. We also worked closely with SWHL and the Cornerstone Arts Foundation on the selection and integration of project specific public art.
The project was advertised nationally and two artists were selected after interview, leading to a series of public workshops with the aim of developing external sculptural elements and internal graphical interventions.
