Jersey College for Girls

Completion Date 2003

Contract Value £27m

Client States of Jersey

We were first appointed by Jersey College for Girls to create a masterplan which would rationalise three existing sites to create a new college campus. The design addressed the problems of a restricted site bound by roads on two sides, steeply sloping contours and the retention of an existing historic building. Strong emphasis was placed on the retention and enhancement of the existing landscape.

The first phase created a new Prep School which incorporated an existing granite barn. This was followed by a series of projects on the main secondary school campus which retained the existing historic building and created a community of geometrically distinct buildings loosely tied together creating a rich hierarchy of external spaces and routes. These included a new Centre for art, design and technology which sits below the ground floor level of the existing building in order to minimise its impact on the adjacent Victorian College House and maximise the usable external spaces. The last phase created a new shared Sports Centre with a national standard swimming pool, sports hall, studio and gym.
