St Mark’s School, Southampton Award Winner!

Date posted: July 14, 2023

We are extremely proud to announce that the new St Mark’s Church of England School in Southampton has recently won two awards, one regional and one national:
– Central South Business Awards – Construction Project of the Year
– Construction News Awards – Community Engagement Project of the Year

The project has also been shortlisted for the Education Estates Awards for ‘Project of the Year – Schools’. An amazing achievement!

The project entailed the replacement of an existing outdated Victorian primary school with a new all-through building for 1,346 pupils aged 3-16. Appointed from RIBA Stage 2, ArchitecturePLB worked closely with the Local Authority, the Diocese and the existing school to establish detailed project requirements and aspirations.

Particular care was taken in understanding the preferred nature of an all-through environment and the degree to which the different age groups should be integrated or separate. The resulting L-shaped design creates distinct primary and secondary wings that retain their own identity but share key facilities at the ‘knuckle’, including dining, the library and learning support.
