Located in a residential area on the northern edge of Seaford and close to the South Downs National Park, Bowden House is a residential school accommodating 40 boys with emotional and behavioural difficulties, built as part of the Tower Hamlets BSF programme. An important of the brief focussed on the physical separation between the school and residential accommodation, so that students can separate their school and home lives. Designed to achieve BREEAM ‘Excellent’, specific design solutions include air source heat pumps linked to underfloor heating, natural ventilation, rainwater harvesting and the use of green roofs as part of an integrated Sustainable Urban Drainage System.
