ArchitecturePLB were appointed by NHS Property Services to help rationalise health facilities on the Hythe and Dibden Memorial Hospital site in Southampton. The scheme which was granted planning permission in 2017 includes a new community hospital and 21 new residential units which will help fund the project and provide additional housing for the local community.

The new facility, with replaces a complex of outdated buildings will provide a wide range of services for the local community including physiotherapy, audiology and gynaecology, respiratory and diabetes clinics. The design team are working with multiple stakeholders including West Hampshire Clinical Commissioning Group, NHS Property Services and NHS England to balance the technical requirements of many different services.

The original hospital building was opened as a memorial to those who lost their lives in the first world war and this intention has been taken forward into the new design. This will include an etched concrete and glass memorial and images of the former hospital displayed in key areas.
