Woodside Avenue, Eastleigh
Completion Date Planning Approved January 2014
Contract Value £16.1m
Client VIVID (Previously First Wessex) / Eastleigh Borough Council
Woodside Avenue is a development of 94 homes, designed for Eastleigh Borough Council to achieve high standards for environmentally sustainable development and design quality in the town, 5 exemplar units have been designed to Passivhaus standards.
Working closely with EBC and development partners First Wessex, Architecture PLB prepared an Outline Application for housing on the 2.5 hectare, former allotment site in the centre of Eastleigh. The design included an illustrative layout to determine capacity and to demonstrate how controversial issues such as overlooking, open space and parking could be addressed on the site. The Application was unanimously approved by the Planning Committee just 6 weeks after submission, in part due to a close working relationship between APLB, the Clients and Eastleigh Planning.
The project sees Eastleigh embark on a new phase of Council Housing, with the scheme delivering a range of homes to meet a variety of needs. The project is set to achieve BREEAM Excellent standard. All the homes will achieve a minimum of Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, thus benefiting the residents by living in highly efficient homes which help in the fight to eradicate fuel poverty and improve health.
