London studio mentor work experience student

Each year ArchitecturePLB welcome work experience students from local schools. Last week Architect Darren Wilson and Architectural Assistant Kwan Vo mentored Lottie in our London Studio.

‘Whist on my work experience with Architecture PLB, I learnt many new skills and experiences. My two mentors took me off site to experience a typical meeting and we also went to the University of Cambridge degree show, to look at some university student’s work. But for the majority of my one-week placement I was back at the office and was given the task of redesigning the office space into a home. I made my own briefing for a ‘client’ who was one of my mentors and had to fit the design of the flat to his needs and interests.

The ‘client’ and I regularly met to talk about the designs I had come up with, which is the process that you must go through in a real architectural job. I enjoyed this so much as well as learning software like photoshop and Sketchup in the process. Everyone in the office was kind, helpful and supportive and I don’t have any negative feedback about my work experience placement. Overall it was a fantastic experience and I received a great insight into an architectural job.’
