Solent University Masterplan

Date posted: August 25, 2016

ArchitecturePLB have completed a new masterplan for Solent University’s East Park Terrace Campus. The proposals will inform the development of the site over the next twenty years, and will include the delivery of two new sports buildings, a student hub and library and improvements to the public realm.

The existing campus has grown relatively organically, amalgamating differing institutions, with infilling across the site resulting in a near continuous single building mass, without any clear structure or logic as a whole.

ArchitecturePLB’s masterplan brings clarity, legibility and identity to the campus, creating a clearly defined front door to the site. The present amorphous collection of buildings will be redefined and developed around distinct elements of the University with clear purposes and uses.

A cohesive and sequential programme of improvements to the external realm will not only improve links and routes across the campus and improve the servicing and management of the estate, but also improve the impression and atmosphere of the campus at large.

Following the successful completion of the masterplan, we were commissioned to develop a Project Definition Document, to brief the design of the new £28m specialist sports building, which will include a high performance gym and multi-purpose hall.
