Mayflower Halls – Topping Out

Date posted: April 4, 2014

Construction of Mayflower Halls has now reached its maximum height of 17 storeys. This important milestone was marked by a topping-out ceremony in March 2014. ArchitecturePLB were delighted to receive a special mention in the speeches, singled out for our contribution to the project and our excellent working relationship with the team.

The scheme, located adjacent to the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton, consists of three individual student accommodation blocks containing a total of 1104 student bedrooms, arranged around a semi-private courtyard. The project represents a major development for all concerned. It will be the largest scheme funded by L&G in the sector, the largest project developed and constructed by Osborne and the tallest building completed by ArchitecturePLB.

The ceremony was conducted near the top of the tallest block (B) and was marked by the traditional completion of the concrete slab by representatives from the funders, Legal and General and the end user, University of Southampton. Andrew Osborne, Chairman of Osborne, the main contractors and developers of the scheme, in partnership with Terrace Hill, led the proceedings.
