Designing for the Third Age

Date posted: June 23, 2014

The challenges of providing housing for an ageing generation have been a concern of the practice for some years. Following on from several other publications, practice Director Ian Deans was instrumental in commissioning this edition of AD magazine which was to consider the issues, analyse case studies and propose innovative solutions for different locations and cultures across the world.

The publication was edited by Lorraine Farrelly of the University of Portsmouth and published by Wiley under the Architectural Design title. Ian Deans contributed as an assessor in the student competition, a challenge to the younger generation of designers to design dwellings that could adapt to accommodate users from 8-80 years old.
